Regional Virtual Program

To meet the educational needs of students who cannot attend in-person instruction due to health challenges, Western Suffolk BOCES is launching a Regional Virtual Program this September that will feature fully synchronous (live) instruction across the K-12 curriculum.

Overview

The Regional Virtual Program is open to the 18 component districts of Western Suffolk BOCES and staffed by active teachers from the participating districts. Students will be approved for enrollment in the Regional Virtual Program by the home district. Parents who wish for their children to join the Regional Virtual Program must contact their child’s home school. Registration for the virtual program requires a full year commitment (September, 2021 – June, 2022) with no opportunity to return to in-person instruction in the home school. There is no direct cost to families.

The grades K-6 program will help students stay connected to their home school while ensuring they remain on grade level. Through the high school program, students have the opportunity to graduate on time with their grade-level peers and earn a Regents diploma.

Instruction

All instruction in the Regional Virtual Program meets required NYS Learning Standards. Classes will be structured and scheduled during regular school hours according to Western Suffolk BOCES.

Live instruction will be provided for key subject areas (math, ELA, social studies, science, world language) and student schedules will allow for physical education and lunch breaks, and, where appropriate, specials, electives, and potentially advanced-level courses.

Only one level of instruction will be offered for each subject on each grade level. Students will have the opportunity to complete higher level work and/or achieve at a higher level to receive honors/advanced designation.

Regional Virtual Program Staff

Classes will be taught by active, fully certified teachers from the participating component school districts on special assignment during their regular scheduled day. A team of administrators will assist with the scheduling and operation of the elementary and high school programs.

Registration

To learn more, students and families should contact their home school district.
